The Holodomor
The Ukraine genocide all so know as the holodomor was a genocide and which victims starved to death. The start of it all was when Stalin came into power and put new laws into place. Stalin required that people no longer owned private land , they could only work on land owned by the state. Some people resisted and that is when Stalin decided to divide them and ship some away. Hundreds of thousands (mostly wealthy peasents) are expropriated and shipped to Siberia without food or shelter were most of them died. Life for Ukrainians were hard between working and trying to find food to survive. If Ukrainian officers caught you stealing food from work you were either sentenced to death or arrested. Stalin purposefully starved the people of the Ukraine he made it so they couldn't meet the demands in food production he was asking for; he also had guards closing out anyone from seaching for food or people from bring food in. "Please return the grain that you have confiscated from me. If you don't return it I’ll die. I’m 78 years old and I’m incapable of searching for food by myself."(From a petition to the authorities by I.A. Rylov)
After years of torture by Stalin and then more torture during World War ᴨ by the Germans it wasn’t until 1991 the Republic of Ukraine declared independence. The Ukrainians then decided they were tired of being under the rule of the Soviet Unit. It took a while for the Ukraine to adjust to being a democracy. The Ukrainians have come a long way from going thought an unknown genocide to know
having their independence.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to
repeat it.”
George Santayana
